Luxury Vinyl Plank in Conroe

We install luxury vinyl plank that stands up to spills, pets and muddy shoes. Before you pick a plank, we show you how the wear layer, the core and the prep under it change how long the floor lasts, so the money you spend now still makes sense years from now.

When Vinyl Plank Is the Right Floor

Luxury vinyl plank is a layered floor. A printed wood look sits under a clear wear layer, on top of a rigid core that clicks together and floats over the subfloor. It handles water far better than laminate or carpet, it stays quiet underfoot with the right pad, and it never needs sanding or sealing.

It is a good call for kitchens, baths, laundry rooms and busy living areas where you want one continuous floor. It is a weaker call if you plan to set a very heavy kitchen island on top of it, or if you want real wood or real stone underfoot. Hardwood or tile may fit better there, and we will say so.

Most homes around Conroe sit on concrete slabs, and our summers are humid. Plank goes down well over slab, but only after we check the slab for moisture and flatness. That check is what keeps the floor from clicking, gapping or lifting later.

What the Job Includes

Moisture and flatness check
We test the slab for moisture and run a long straightedge across it. Most plank makers want the floor within about 3/16 inch over 10 feet. Low spots get filled before anything goes down.
Taking out the old floor
The current floor gets pulled up before anything new goes in. That might be old carpet with its cushion and tack strip, glued-down sheet goods or tired laminate. We haul all of it away. Tile removal is slower and dustier, so we plan extra time for it and cover the rooms next door.
Underlayment and vapor barrier
Over concrete we lay a vapor barrier unless the plank has one built in. Some planks come with an attached pad. We do not stack a second pad under those, since that can void the maker's terms and make the joints flex.
Installation with proper gaps
Plank grows and shrinks with temperature. We leave an expansion gap at every wall and cabinet, undercut door jambs so the plank slides under them, and break up the seams so no pattern repeats.
Trim and transitions
We reset or replace baseboards and quarter round, and fit transitions where the plank meets tile, carpet or a sliding door track. If you have stairs, our stair flooring work can carry the same plank up the steps.

Signs Vinyl Plank Makes Sense for You

  • Carpet that never comes clean

Stains near the kitchen, the back door or a pet's favorite spot keep coming back. Plank wipes clean and does not hold odor.

  • Laminate swelling at the seams

Spills and mop water get into laminate joints and the edges puff up. A waterproof plank core does not swell like that.

  • Cracked tile or crumbling grout

If tile keeps cracking or the grout is falling apart, plank can replace it with a warmer, softer floor that has no grout to scrub.

  • Pets and kids wearing the floor down

Claws, toys and chair legs scratch soft floors fast. A thicker wear layer handles that kind of daily traffic much better.

  • An open space pieced together

When carpet, tile and laminate all meet in one big living area, the room looks chopped up. Plank can run through the living area, kitchen and halls without a break.

How a Plank Job Runs

  1. 1

    A phone call first

On the call, walk us through which rooms need a new floor, what covers them today and who uses them most. Then we pick a day to come out and measure.

  2. 2

    Measure and check the slab

We measure each room, test for moisture and check flatness. You get a written estimate that lists removal, leveling, plank, trim and labor as separate lines.

  3. 3

    Prep day

We move furniture we agreed on, pull the old floor and grind or fill the slab. Plank boxes sit in the house ahead of time so they match room temperature.

  4. 4

    Install and clean up

Most rooms go down in a day or two. We set trim, vacuum and haul off debris, then look over the finished floor together before we pack up. If a plank or a piece of trim bothers you, we fix it while we are still there.

What Moves the Price of Vinyl Plank

Two vinyl plank floors can look alike and cost very different amounts. The plank itself is only part of it. A cheaper plank on a poorly prepped slab often costs more in the end than a mid-grade plank laid right.

Wear layer and core
A 12 mil wear layer is fine for a guest room. Busy family rooms and pet homes do better with 20 mil or more. Rigid stone-plastic cores hold up better near big sunny windows than softer cores.
Condition of the slab
Dips, humps and old adhesive take time to grind and fill. A flat, clean slab keeps this line small.
What comes out first
Carpet comes up fast. Glued vinyl and ceramic tile take far more labor and disposal.
Layout and square footage
Open rooms go quick. Closets, angled walls, cabinets and lots of doorways mean more cuts and more trim.

Vinyl Plank Questions We Hear

Something not covered here? (346) 654-3574

Is luxury vinyl plank really waterproof?

The plank itself will not swell from water. A big spill or a leaking pipe is a different story, because water can work down between the joints and get trapped against the concrete. Wipe up spills quickly, and after a large leak a few planks can be unclicked so the floor underneath can dry.

How long will a vinyl plank floor last?

It depends mostly on the wear layer and how the floor is used. A thick wear layer in a normal home can last many years. A thin one in a busy kitchen with dogs will show wear much sooner, which is why we match the plank to the room.

Can you put plank over my existing tile?

Sometimes. The tile has to be solid, flat and stuck down tight with no hollow or loose pieces, and the grout lines may need skim coating so they do not show through. Added height can also cause problems at doors and appliances, so we check before saying yes.

How do I take care of it?

Sweep or vacuum, then damp mop with a cleaner made for vinyl. Skip steam mops and wax. Put felt pads under chair legs and use a mat at outside doors, since grit is what dulls the wear layer.

What is the difference between plank and luxury vinyl tile?

They are built from the same layers. Plank is long and narrow, cut to mimic a wood floor. Luxury vinyl tile is cut into squares and rectangles printed to resemble stone or ceramic, and it often suits baths and entries well.
